Roadie has taken to her role as “Agent in Charge”
like a cormorant to a ferry dock.
This morning she announced that we were going for an early morning walk.
“While it’s still cool and the shadows long, is the best time for what we gotta do.”
Joe Friday started out in front tunneling his way through the garden foliage. He was muttering something about how important it was to avoid the open paths and take advantage of the “flora”.
Roadie waited respectfully for Joe to finish, then said,
“There’s some people I want you to meet.”
With calm deliberation, she lead the way.
She was vigilant, stopping frequently to see if anyone was tracking us.
Eventually, we made it to the pond.
“It’s OK, Larry. Come on out,” Roadie gruffed.
“Everybody, this is Larry, the newest member of my team.
Larry’s got experience. His cousin Leo works for the Chickens.”
“Larry has proven invaluable in gathering info up there.”
Roadie dismissed Larry with a wave of her tail.
Larry nodded and disappeared into the leaves.
With deliberate casualness, Roadie sat down and began gnawing her bum.
Suddenly there was a soft whoosh and flutter of feathers…
“And this is Sammy. Hi Sammy.”“Don’t let his diminutive 12 inch stature fool you.
He’s well connected in the Sharp Shinned Hawk community.”
“Sammy doesn’t talk much, but when he does, he’s worth listening to.”
“Alright, everyone, it’s time to head back.”
“Joe once told me that an agent is only as good as those working under her. And it’s still true.
I’m lucky to have such a good team and have retired Special Agent Joe Friday by my side.”
