iRobot and I have a complicated relationship. I’ve never trusted him. He never liked me. He tried to eat my  computer cables the first time I gave him a try.

Yesterday I thought I’d give him another chance. All seemed well. For an hour and a half iRobot putzed around the living room. When he finally finished, he parked himself at the front door instead of docking – like he was making a break for it. Only then did I notice that the dust bin was missing.  I found it under the couch… he dropped it in the first 5 minutes and spent all the rest of the time redistributing the dog hair and dust.

I went to the garage, got the biggest screwdriver and the biggest wrench I could find, brought them into the living room and set them down next to iRobot. No words were exchanged. (Been watching a lot of Ray Donovan episodes). I left them that way while I watched ‘How to’ YouTube videos about iRobot for 30 minutes.  Put the wrench and screwdriver back in the garage. Put the dust bin back in iRobot and pressed the CLEAN button. He cleaned the dining room for 15 minutes, then docked himself perfectly.

He charged up overnight.

This morning he has been doing a great job cleaning the living room, hallway and bedroom.

I think this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful relationship…
