06-03-15 Joe Friday has retired
Roadie gave me a warm greeting when I arrived this morning. No barking.
She has really become such a grown-up.
Joe Friday invited me inside because he had some big news.
Once I got settled, Joe sat me down and, with great solemnity, explained that he has retired from the Agency. I was surprised, not that he retired, but that the Agency let him stay here. Usually retired agents are recalled for debriefing and relocation to protect that agent.
Joe explained that he has exceptional influence with the Agency because he knows “where all the bones are buried.” Roadie has been promoted to Chief Special Agent in Charge and Joe will maintain his cover as “Pretzel”.
What does an agent of Joe Friday’s stature do in retirement? He’s writing a book. There is so much he cannot talk about, for obvious reasons, but he has found his niche, Hiding in Plain Sight, a Guide for the Master Spy.
Here’s an excerpt from the chapter “Become the Couch Pillow”. He is uncanny. I mean, can you tell where the couch pillows end and Joe Friday begins?
