Lourdes is usually quiet, reserved and reluctant to do anything without Lupe
… until today.  She told me her story

It is true, Lupe and I are sisters.  We come from a big family in a small village in Guatemala.  We were much younger and thought we knew everything. I fell in love with the most handsome and brave rooster there ever was, Raul.  He was the love of my life. But he was a member of the local rebel band – very dangerous.  All  against the wishes of my father.

Then,… then… Lupe stole him from me. Our father found us fighting.  When he discovered why, he was furious. He reminded us that those ” ‘rebels’ were nothing but a bunch of thugs who used their ’cause’ as an excuse for avoiding honest work.”  Then he packed us up and shipped us off to live with our “Auntie” in  Nogales.  We were there a week then “Auntie” shipped us to Seattle, and, somehow, here we are.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love Lupe, but every now and then I remember Raul and I get sooooo MAD.  You may have noticed, she’s missing some head feathers… that’s my bad.

Lupe does not want to talk about it.
