09-16-14 Roadie plays catch me if you can
After we all had breakfast, we went out back for a little walk. Roadie trotted around to the front of the house. Once she was sure I was following, she trotted across the road to the neighbors and kept going. I was still in my raggedy sweats. Neighbors wanted to know who I was. As soon as I said ‘Roadie’ they laughed and waved me on. Roadie went right up the the sliding glass doors of their house and scratched to be let in.She didn’t struggle when I picked her up, just went limp. I swear she gained a pound with every step I took. Joe Friday supervised the return trip. By the time we got home, Roadie weighed 300 lbs, I was wheezing and Joe Friday wanted a snack as a reward for showing me the way home.
Time for a nap.
About 5pm I loaded most of my stuff in the car. Joe Friday was deeply distraught. Back in the house, he kept jumping up and whining. Only by sitting with him and petting him for an hour, did he settle into a nap… as did I.
Dinner was at 6:30 followed by a short walk. When it was time to come in, I called, Joe Friday waddled right up. Roadie, down by the flowers, looked at me and with a flick of her head, let me know ‘The game was a foot.’ It was ‘catch me if you can’ all over again… She was very playful, keeping just out of reach.
Finally, down by the pond, she stopped. Clearly she likes being carried. As I plodded up the hill, the house seemed to get further away with each step. After forever I got her into the house. She was happy as can be, tail wagging. Joe Friday wanted a treat.
I said my good byes, promised them both I would see them soon…
