Roadie gave me the warmest greeting. Full body wags, big smiles and no barking.
I got all settled in and we just hung out together.
I set out her dinner out at 6, but she ignored it and went to bed.
She usually skips her meals for the first 24 hours when I come.
About an hour later the wind picked up and blew loud and long.
The full moon ducked behind the clouds and cast an eerie light.
There came a ‘clang-clang-grunt’, ‘clang-grunt-grunt’ from Roadie’s food bowel.
It sounded just like Pretzel stealing Roadie’s dinner.
His metal tag banging the metal bowel.
Roadie heard this and came trotting out from the bedroom.
She came within 3 feet of her bowel, lowered her head and began sniffing.
She eased up to her dinner with great caution. Then ate it.

The next morning I put out Roadie’s breakfast.
She sat about 3 feet from her bowel and waited for Pretzel.
It was their game. Pretzel would wolf down his food then trot over to see if he could steal some of Roadie’s.
Roadie would set back just far enough to tempt him.
If he got too close, Roadie would growl and chase him away.
Roadie loved the game.

This morning she waited for Pretzel to come.
She would lean forward, looking to see where he might be hiding.
After about 15 minutes, I told her that Pretzel wouldn’t be coming this morning.
She looked up to me, gave a shrug and ate her breakfast.
